Hoping for more transparency from the Streamy Awards
I’m glad someone is picking up the torch after Podtech dropped the ball on the Vloggies, but before I get too wrapped up in the excitement of the Streamy Awards - I’m hoping for some clarification about the mechanics of the event.
I’m seeing a lot of Streamy buzz from friends and colleagues, most of which are soliciting for nominations. But it isn’t exactly clear how the nomination process affects the final outcome. Are the most nominated shows getting heavier consideration? Are the least nominated shows getting no consideration?
Also, the judging is being done by the newly formed International Academy of Web Television, which is an invite-only non-profit “comprised of leaders in the field of web television, web video and the digital entertainment industry.” No details yet on who is part of this organization or how it’s related to the Streamy organizers/sponsors.
I’m all for recognizing good content on the web, and I’m happy to see an award show specifically for our industry - I just want to make sure we’re righteously putting our collective support behind an event whose decisions may ultimately affect our careers as producers & content creators.
So basically what I’m asking for is a little more transparency from the organizers and a few more details on the selection process. Fair enough, yes? I’m sure these details will come out in due time. I’m just impatient.
